Advice regarding MIDI controllers/interfaces and the like

Hi All,
Was just getting together a list for my production setup.

My question is in the experience of some of the more seasoned producers, is investing in a MIDI controller advisable in the long run?

Is it something that you find usable when your production skills have reached a certain standard?

Also, to a complete newbie with no prior experience with a keyboard, what is the learning curve like?

Would it be better off to invest this in a pair of monitors, or perhaps a slightly better sound card instead?

Thanks!

well...keyboard makes it a lot easier to come up with a good riff chord progression or whatever ...

I sometimes use it to tick my own percussion loops on it, instead of programming them by hand

so...depending on what your current gear is...you might find a keyboard usefull.

I mostly like mine for the knob/slider functionality than anything. It's nice being able to tweak filters, etc. by hand.
