Oh man I would imagine a subwoofer amp would need to be high wattage. Check the specs on it and buy an amp accordingly. Over powering the speaker is always a good thing.

Just grab any amp you can, preferably over 200w. Some amp's topologies will be designed differently making it better for sub-bass than others.

buy something with a bridging option. this allows it to be used as a single channel amp. the left and right channels are linked(one internally inverted) so they perform as one. then you use one connector from each channel of the amp.

your main issue is gonna be the crossover frequency. if the sub has a crossover built in then thats fine(providing the crossover is not at a level for home cinema- this is too high for music playback really)

if the sub is for home cinema or doesn not have a crossover then you will have to replace or add a passive crossover. have a look on maplin.co.uk or radioshack/tandy for passive subwoofer crossovers that have a 18db cut or higher and a power rationg of the same as the bass driver in the sub.

your other option is to not use a crossover in the sub at all. and find a active crossover on ebay. this goes before the amp and filters the high frequencies. this is the more expensive option but will give a better result. you can also adjust crossover frequencies on many active units.

a $300 sub probably isn't very accurate in terms of sounds though. Same would count for the crossovers. Quality unfortunately costs more than that.

I'm not disagreeing with you. He wanted to get the sub running for <$300.

if you can push 300rms and use active crossovers for under 300 notes then he will end up with a pretty useable bass setup really. as long as that amp does what it claims...

All I'm saying is I would try to save up more money over time and buy something else.
It's a difficult task to end up with a workable setup with such a budget in my opinion. However I do get the point. I'm currently on a setup which cost about 500E initially. Lately however I'm really beginning to notice the difficulties and innacuracies... What I'm personally looking for is a set of speakers of quality, which starts at about 1200Euro .
Maybe that's why I've responded with, in this case, a useless reply for the TS. Good luck on your search though.
