Give in to the dark side. It's hard to try producing something that your heart/mind isn't into. Go with it and see where it takes you. The melody isn't uplifting at all. It sounds dark because of the note changes you're making. Good luck.

I find that I go though stages of liking a certain sound and that it takes a small time for watever I'm listening to to filter through into my own music. Go with where the track takes you ance don't stress. I find that that's the number one rule for good writing.

Jey - I know exactly what you mean. I often try to make nice melodic prog or trance and usually end up with really driving, dirty, techy trance.

I find it happen when I get really immersed on the over technical aspects when programming the tracks. You can either give yourself to the dark side (and become more powerful than you could imagine) or step away from the drums and start focusing on lush pads and strings - that usually sets me back on the right track.

the power sounds good!!

i had a faze where all i was making was uplifting melodys and sweeping pads!! sat for hours simply making melody after melody but once i started on a bassline and some drums the melodys started to get edited to suit the dark side lol

Or just do a JK Walker or early early NU-nrg and bass out a dirty track and have a massive string breakdown and slam back into a dirty trance track.

why bother with placing the track into a genre before it's done.

Just produce and get it done, if it turns out techy then so be it, if it turns out upliftingish then so be it.

in the end it's not the style that matters, it's the quality of the track
