Used a B, used to own a C.

Fairly similar, and I could live with a B, but the C is obviously an updated model and thus with the extra voices, and modulation routings makes it a more powerful beast for programming.

Besides, the Virus range has always been well over rated. There is other synths that imho can give you better bang for your buck, both then and now versus the A, B and C when they came out.

just give me a synth which is as much flexible as a virus and still sounds great... i think all those modulation options are really great to create your own sounds. especially for sound designers. i have a virus b and ti - both are great in its own way. but obviously the difference between B and C is very small compared to C and TI

Definately get the Virus C if you can.
I use the "Analog 1-4 Pole" filters for basslines and plucks. The standard lowpass filter tends to sound thin.
The added polyphony is great too. You need as much as possible to be able to use alot of unison. I think there's an EQ on the Virus C also.

Ive owned both and they sound exactly the same (apart from the moog style filters and eq in the C)

when i put my B patches onto the C, they sounded just like before

The C is much easier to program since they changed the front panel

Moog filters sound cool and can add some nice grit, to say they sound like real moog filters or even an analog filter is maybe an overstatement though

EQ is useful for an extra boost but not essential, although one awesome thing is that you can modulate the EQ peaks! to use them like notch filters
more useful to D&B producers than you trance guys but you'll still find its nice for pads
