AKG K 240S vs AKG K 141

Hey again.. thanks for the recommendations on phones, but I'm hearing mixed reviews about the 240S. I heard it's a bit uncomfortable?

Anyone own a pair that can vouch to or against that? And is there such a different between the two anyway besides cost?

I bought a pair a few months ago and they are amazing...the only thing i dont like is that your ears sweat with the closes phone around them. But that is only becuase my studio is small and it gets hot sometimes...but al,l in all I love em.

Will I need a board/amp to boost the phones? Both models?

The k240S are so comfortable I forget I'm actually wearing them!
You will not need an amp for the S model. The M or DF models require an amp however. I'd say go for the k240S.

never tried the 141's but the k240S sound/feel great, especially compared to some other brands which are very bulky/heavy.

My friend has a pair where the outer sheath is pulling away from the headphone plug end. Hasn't affected the connections at all. The cable is removable, so replacements (coiled or straight) are available. I've treated mine well and haven't noticed any degredation of the cable.

I've had the K240S for about 9 months and they are fantastic. Amazingly comfortable with great sound.

They do get a bit hot in summer but that's to be expected.

K240s's are the bee's knee's! Great pair of headphones. You can't go wrong with them for sure.

Wish my damn Sony MCD-V700's were as comfortable.

I'm a little late to this party, but I'll add my two cents anyway.

I've owned the K240 DF for about 3 years now. They're very comfortable, although pretty much any set of cans will get uncomfortable after several hours straight. I don't know who said what about cabling, but that's a load of BS, the cable is perfectly fine, and everything is essentially still in "mint condition" after all of this use.

The DF model does require a receiver or amp, as people have pointed out. However, that model is discontinued anyway. The Studio model has much lower impedance and will work with just about any input.

Most importantly, the 240 has much better sound than the 141. The K141 is good for its price range, but unless you're on a really tight budget, you need to spend a little more than that for proper cans.

Nut, can you recommend a cheap amp for the DF? Something I can use with my EMU 0404?
