You could consider replacing a USB PCI card (if you have one or more) with a combo USB/FW card. However, depending on what you need the additional FW port for, this may not be a very good solution. I bought one of the combo cards a few years ago and couldn't get my soundcard to work properly with it. I had to ditch it in favor of a dedicated FW card with a TI chipset. But, if you only need the additional FW port for a non-audio peripheral (e.g., a video camera connection), then it may be a viable option.

interesting! i have 2 UAD cards and a video card taking up all my slots as far as PCI goes : /

now the front of my computer has a 4 port USB bus built in, i was actually trying to find out if such a thing exists on my mobo for firewire... maybe i could connect a small internal firewire bus and have it come out to an extra cd bay i have. not funding such a component though

Get an SATA / IDE to firewire bridge.

SATA / IDE is what you plug your hard drive and CD drive into.

SATA is preferred since it's faster.

Or a Firewire hub... that basically makes one firewire into many. It shares the load well so long as you don't max out more than one device at a time.

Try these guys - they have just about everything you can think of related to firwire accessories.

On a side note - you really should never use a soundcard / audiointerface with a USB or Firewire hub. You will get stability issues and in some cases bottlenecking.

You really should have interfaces on separate dedicated ports, and everything else (iloks, printers, etc) going through the hub.

my soundcard goes directly into the mobo but this hub is going to have to do for my liquid mix.
