Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

I just could never get ultrabeat to sound good! Sounds like software to me.
I still rewire redrum into logic to get drum patterns.

I have lost faith in drum machines to be honest. i tested mixing a kick drum from redrum down to see shape of wave and compared to original sample and the redrum one had shrunk.

now I just load samples in direct and process them individually I find I get a brighter clearer sound.

Are you sure? Was the velocity of the kick right, was it going through just one mixer with volumes at 100%? no compression on anything?

Ive not tried it myself, but I would of thought all things being equal they would produce identical results.

I also sometimes think that drum machines aren't that good (but I'm not that good mixer/sound producer...so it might be just that I'm not good enough for the drum machines)

Where do you get your drum sounds/samples?

I didn't like ultrabeat, either. Never got to use it, until 12 months ago when I checked the synth features of it as well as the routing and triggering in there. Now it's become a companion. I think I got the same going with Sculpture now.

Yeah I checked everything. Audio out of reason is never as good as the direct sample wehn used in an audio editor just my opinion. I know lots of reason lovers out there and i love it for sidechaining the synths are great effects everything. Just not a fan of itsa sound quality over using a sample direct seems to dullen it and lower vol a bit. Try urself take a kick in redrum and do a mixdown in cubase or whatever then load that kick in direct to cubase and compare results.

Also its bound to colour it a little coming through a redrum -> mixer -> Hardware interface -> rewire -> cubase right?
