Depending on the tone of the bass I sometimes like to add a touch of filtered delay to add some subtle mid range harmonics.

Just be careful not to over do it.

No, damn it, just EQ

Rolling basslines is all about the sequence and synth programming I think.

For pumping basslines on the other hand, it's:

distortion
EQ
reverb
Compression
Sidechain

And in that order. And then add to that whatever the hell you please.

Depends on the actual bass sound and how/whether it's layered. The lowest frequencies should be left alone with the exception of EQing. Higher frequencies (above 400Hz) can be enhanced with gentle delay to create rhythmic harmonics.

This question comes by way too often. My genuine answer would be: whatever you like. If it sounds good it is good . Last rolling bassline I did had bitcrusher, transient processors and eq on it.

That was on my Nifty & Nosey remix of Xetro's "Abrupt Interrupt" track by the way.

Thinking back again , High-pass filters can get you those super high energy basslines like that one in 3rd moon-meltdown.

And then , theres Distortion for tb-303 lovers..

But then , EQ is still God of Basslines
