Sampling basics (loop points)

Hi all,

My Yammie a 3000 v2 -expanded- has just arrived and I allready realised the massive power of it. I allready learned what multisampling is but I have some difficulties with those looping points.. I want to sample a faaaaaaaat lead sound from my an1x (damn that synth rox) into my a3000 so I can increase the polyphony and use the an1x for other sounds that need modulation that the a3000 can not do (ex pulse with modulation) but as I try to loop the wave every cycle you hear a click and I allready use those help functions like zero point and so on. I know this is the beginning of sampling and it would help everybody who is new to hardware sampling. -> THE a3000 has not got any wave display or somehing and I still have to wait some months before I have my pc for sequencing and wave editing so I really would like to have some tricks to do the job. If this is relevant to my quenstion the sound I want to sample is a bit complex.. It's a saw - pulse wave in unision mode with fm, noise and ring modulation on it so this is maybe the reason why it is hard to sample.

2 things

1. practise makes perfect
2. try and error

I have a esi4000 turbo, which also doesnt have a waveform display so if I want a sample to loop I have to find the looppoints manually....just get em sounding as good as you can, and then use the zero point stuff. Try again till you have something you can work with. If it doesn't sound perfectly smooth, a big chorus or flange can cover up your mistakes pretty much

the most likely part to loop is in the 3rd quarter of the sample, where the sustain part of the envelope is.

Try to sample it dry especially without flangers, phasers and chorus as these while affect getting the loop points sorted!

Yes i know Pjotr, i meant i was sampling from my an1x with loads of reverb, chorus and delay. I 've tried to add those effects after i sampled it and it sounds allready much better (and yes chorus reduces the clicking, it was a very usefull tip ) Kontakt... I dunno, I'm a big fan of hardware except for sequencing I've tried fruityloops once and well, and it doesn't sound half as powerfull as hardware (virtual) analogue synths like an1x , virus, nova,...but i suppose some sounds can be usefull in a mix if you effect them a lot (which is no problem at all in fruityloops) AND I like tweaking knobs, nothing can replace the feeling of turning those cutoff and resonance knobs or the lfo speed in real time
