What software/hardware do I need to get to sound like Dash Berlin&Armin Van Buuren?

Hi, I'm new to producing trance music. I'm on a Mac. What softwares do I need to get that professional radio quality sound? I produce rock music mostly, and have been doing so for a few years now. I know how to cut rock tracks, but mixing for trance is totally different. Most of the plug-ins I've played with sound really flat and mediocre. It doesn't have that punch I'm seeking after as how you would hear in a Berlin mix (like the song Waiting).

What do you guys use that has helped you achieved that professional trance sound? I have no clue where to begin as far as buying software and hardware for making trance.

For starters, here's what I have so far in my collection:

Logic Express 8
Korg EMX1
Yamaha CS1x
Kore 2 with the controller (just ordered this; on its way)
Komplete 5 (getting this very soon)

Will this be good enough? Not good enough? Any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

-Byron

Yeah just update to logic pro, express is quite limited. Also Ni Komplete which you are getting is quite good package for trance/dance/house stuff. Thats all you need to get started.

- Start with high quality samples for your percussion. There are many good sample packs out there. I always use free ones but for beginning it can be a pain in the arse shaping these.

- Learn at least one synth inside-out. That way you'll be able to replicate almost all sounds with it and then you can apply this knowledge to other synths.

- Watch tutorials, ask questions, experiment.

i have heard that most producers just use logic synths but one of my fav synths it's z3ta and gemini, the 1st has automation and with the 2nd one you can achieve every single sound you want, i am amazed how powerful is it's modulation.

the internal synths in logic are quite awesome, but their a bit complex so it takes some time learning them, im not there yet but the sounds i get are really good.

Don't forget the two years of constant and obsessive learning and experimenting to get to the stage where you can start learning how to make something sound decent.

And decent monitors.

Thanks for the great feedback, guys. I have learned a lot this past week just pondering and thinking about what you all have written. I found a great Logic Pro tutorial by Sean Tyas on youtube. Check it out if you use Logic. Seven parts.

Do you guys know where I can go to get really good percussions? Is the REX packages good enough to get pro sounding quality? Thanks.
