Read This! Choosing new monitors!

Greets,
I have 2 broken Tapco S8s and rather than fixing them I thought I would go ahead and choose a new pair. I've been using these for 2 years and they're treated me really well, very clear sound. I'd like to know what you guys use, especially the guys who know me from the production forum since I've listened to some of your productions and it would be interesting to know what you use too.

I am willing to spend around $300-700, but with some convincing and good reviews and research could go up to 800 or 900. I think spending more monitors at this point would be a waste, since I've been so happy with the Tapcos,($200 a pair, but I'm pretty sure they stopped selling them). Who knows, maybe I just don't know what I'm missing. =]

Thanks!

honestly man if you know your current monitors and your mixes are coming out good on them don't go buy new ones. It's a MINIMUM of 6 mos-1yr before you know your monitors (honestly i'd even be willing to bet longer if you're not doing 20hrs a week or more in front of them). there are absolutely monitors much better, in terms of specs then the ones you have but your budget puts you nearly right back where you started but now you're on a different brand that sound different that probably aren't much more accurate than what you already have.

so for the people that don't want to read all that, unless you're ready to pay into the next tier (probably $1,500+) stick with what you have because you already know it and that's half the battle.

i would if i knew it wouldn't be a huge pain in the butt to get them repaired. i believe they want the original receipt/invoice or something. supposing i was willing to readjust my ears to new monitors, i wonder if there was anything in that price range. i did use those monitors at least like 1-6 hours a day for 2 years so i like your advice. they're simply the best monitors for the price. i'm not sure i am worried monitors changing my overall sound, but anything can happen. maybe it could improve it. i am about 95% to where i want to be as a dance music producer and it's been exciting the past year really polishing up my sound, so who knows. =] thanks again.

If you have the original bill, just photoshop the date so that you are still within your warranty. I've done that a few times.

Actually they are S5s, so a good consideration would be to just go with the S8s I suppose. Any extra cash I can use to beef up the production rig. Oh and... no thanks to fraud. Not worth it for $200 or whatever. Also I wouldn't admit guilt to things like that online. Just sayin'.

Well be a sucker and get stuck with a defective product and have to spend money because the particular model you got did not last as long as they are supposed to. I would say fraud is kinda the wrong word to use. Little white lies never hurt anyone.

One of them was already replaced under warranty. The other one I flat out dropped and it stopped working. So thanks for the advice anyway.

So far I'm gonna have to check out the Mackie MR8s, the Tapco S8s are discontinued and even though I'm sure I could get ahold of them the MR8s are the official "replacement". They look pretty sweet, too. Without going into a whole new $1500 price range, these look like a good catch.

+1, but seriously you have to have search blindness to be starting a thread on this.

The same recommendations have come up again and again. Just search the word "monitors" in the last 6 months on the search option and you'll find everything you could possibly need to make a decision.
