How many channels does one use in a production?

I always find this interesting to ask.How many channel strips doe you all usually use in a production.I use around 60-70 in mine(most I believe was close to 80).

I used up to about 105 in my last project. However, about 40 of them were scrapped ideas and patterns

I only use one channel for automation.

Thanks!

Shout outs to the Fly and the Bonzai crew for assembling great remixers for that release!

Impressive?

I could start up a project with a thousand tracks very easily - just keep duplicating them. Then I could chop up the audio among the tracks, so the intro of a particular instrument is on one track, the verse on another, the chorus on another, the outro on another and so on.

Or I could do the same thing with automation, on the one track.

Track counts are meaningless. Achieving something with four tracks or four hundred isn't "impressive". What matters in the end is "does the song sound good?" People have different preferences in terms of workflow. Some people like combining all their effects on a single track, while others may use twenty different tracks for this.

If 60-70 is working fine for you, and feels right for you, then stick with it!

Exactly. I use a dual screen setup and I have one screen just for pattern arranging.

I just go nuts on creating different patterns in percussion and sounds and then arrange them as necessary.

This, but in Renoise instead of Ableton.

See if you're going to count every percussion track as a seperate track + sends and returns, and sidechain channels, then I'd easily get to about 25 tracks/project. If you were using FL and created tracks for automation, I'd probably get to 35 or more, and I use very little layering, and try to go for a generally parsimonious approach.

I don't really see what difference it makes to your production, especially considering everyone counts tracks so differently.

my last track, the one from the competition bellow (SIG) has 110+- tracks , the break is built from 20+- tracks

At some stage I exported each aspect of the track(strings,percussions,basses,hats...) as one wave file to make it easier to mix
