I'm amazed UAD is still in business. In fact I was amazed 5 years ago -their customers must be retrophiles or something.

ya i don't really get it. Mine were a gift but Waves has them beat on every plugin cheaper and native. I think i just use them because i have them. lol. But waves is still 32 bit too. At least they don't make a huge update without adding some serious changes and still not be 64 bit when people are asking what the fuck is taking so long.
They did have this promotion where you could give them your powercore serial and get a bunch of free plugins so that was cool but then I don't really use them so sigh. Can't really sell them either for a good return.
But still, V6 and not really anything new except that is "works" with protools without a wrapper. Great way to announce your new product by saying, hey are shit isn't broken now.
The sad part is that I think they are actually doing better. I had the UAD-1 in 2001 when it first came out before DAWS did the auto latency for you. Not much has changed. Still underpowered, still over priced and really not that much to speak of in terms of sound compared to any other company. At least 10 years ago, you could actually say they sound great. They sound average.
Of course everyone that owns them pretty much exemplifies the Matthew effect they talk about in psychology. People have convinced themselves it much be awesome because you have to buy it and once you buy it, you have to buy another one because they are so underpowered that by the end, you own 3 cards and well you aren't really going to be honest about how they perform either to yourself or others.
they are average. What ever advantage they had a few years ago, everyone has caught up. Now they are just a collection of good plugins crippled by hardware.
If less is more think about how much more more would be.

Yes, but a L4C is saying, with the current WAVES pricing and all the other pricedrops and new heroes in the digital candy store there are much better cheaper and more flexible alternatives than UAD

I once had a UAD card and Powercore Firewire, and i'm pretty glad to be rid of them tbh. There really is no need these days, and for UAD to be 32 bit only really is laughable.

I've never heard these things in use but always drooled over thier adverts. It's very interesting to read comments like these - perhaps I can fell whole again afterall.
Also - slightly off topic, but Future Music rave about things like the Abbey Road plugins, for I've just had this hunch that it would be £250 pretty much down the pipe. But someone must be buying all this stuff thinking it will give them an edge?
