Graphic Equalizer / Audio Analyzer

I'm not sure where to look, but I want whatever is coming out of my computer's soundcard (Reason) to be analyzed by a program so I can see the frequencies being filled. Do you guys have any ideas or use something that's free (and nice) and works with Ableton (plugin) or stands alone?

Get yourself FabFilter Pro-Q. One of the best EQ plugins available with a great spectrum analyser. In fact, they just updated their SA to be even more accurate and responsive.

The Ableton one is pretty good though, especially the fact that it shows you note values when you mouse over it.

Yeah I use it to tune my kicks (cue use your ear comments) as I like to have the kick 5 notes below the bass root (not necessarily same octave).

Never mentioned fabfilter, ozone, or waves etc as he was after free stuff. Then again depends if you....

Does anyone know any third party plugs that this? And better still, in AU format?

Go there and click on the picture of the screencap - It seems to be depicting just that occurring. It also comes in Audio Unit format

another quick question. Above & Below what frequencies should be cut? Looking at this: 100hz to 10k hz. appears "optimal" but what's the "best" range to keep these frequencies in? Should I cut EVERYTHING outside those frequencies?

No. You should not cut anything above 10 kHz. It will sound like shit and 100Hz is where the thump from most kick drums reside. You have quite a few useful Hz before you want to start drastic cutting and sheving at 30 Hz. Everything above 30Hz should be done in moderation and I've even got songs which I preserved as low as 19Hz - one of the more successful ones - review wise.
