Why not more mixers with stereo channels?

I'd like to see something like the ZEDR-16 or 1640i with 8 stereo and 8 mono channels.

In fact to cut costs the stereo channels wouldn't even need mic pre's.

Seems weird that they're all still mono, well most of them are at least.

At the very least, something like the ADA8000 with 8 stereo channels for synths and shit would solve a little problem.

I used to have a Soundcraft SpiritFolio M12 that I used for my hardware synths when I was still primarily OTB. I bought it primarily because it had the 4 stereo channels, which was perfect for synths. At the time I was really wishing that they would have made one with like 4 mono channels (with pres) and 12 stereo channels (sans pres).

There's an A&H one that has some as well, the Zed14 iirc, and then the Midas Venice U16 that has 8 mono and 4 stereo channels.

I would have thought there'd be more demand what with all the synths that have multiple outputs for the last 20 years or so.

Yeah, you'd think so. With the boom in home studio/one-man music production, it seems like it would make sense. How many hobbyists need simultaneous access to more than a couple of mono channels/mic preamps? Seems like a mixer with 8 or more stereo channels for electronics (e.g., synths, rack FX) and 2-4 mono channels with pres (e.g., 1 for vox, 1 or 2 for guitars) would make a nice little niche product for one-man warriors.

Anyway, the other thing you could consider (and probably already have) is something in a rackmount format (i.e., as opposed to a console w/faders format). Nady, Alesis, and a few others make some that are reasonably priced (but also lack a lot of features that you'd probalby want in a desk format).

The Spirit ES had like 8 stereo channels. Then they discontinued it and didn't make a replacement.

See that would have been ideal.

I can only assume the market just isn't there.

Or perhaps the manufacturers just haven't cottoned on how to sell it to the home user properly yet.
