Good production programs for Mac....

I want to start creating/remixing musik on my iMac at home, so I need to know what programs are best for he Mac. I know alot of DJ's use Mac to compose musik. I'm just curious which programs are the best. I downloaded Storm 2.0 over the weekend, it seems to have alot of capabilites, but I only have the demo version, so I can't import musik to remix, or record my own creations. Any help is appreciated... thanks.

Thanks for the heads up on Pro Tools, I talked to one of my friends that works for a advertising production firm, and he can hook me up with the program, but I probably need to beef up my system to handle the hard/software. He said it's an amazing program though. Thanks again...

when people try pirating pro tools you know they don't know what's going on lol

Don't take that comment the wrong way... but pro tools is absolutely the wrong choice, and no, you can't get it for free.

Actually... besides the board, I could get all the other neccesary software needed, but I don't have the $5000 to get it all legit, and I'm not looking to build a recording studio out of my room either. Think I'll start a little smaller... and go from there. Thanks for the advice though...

You can start with Reason or Fruityloops. Then if you still like making music after a while you can get Cubase, Logic or Cakewalk Sonar and buy some hardware synthesizers, or use some software synthesizers. I think hardware synths sound better though (espacially virtual analog synths).

I'm not sure if you can use Fruityloops and Cakewalk on the Mac.

Fruityloops: http://www.fruityloops.com

Cubase: http://www.steinberg.net

Logic: www.emagic.de

Cakewalk Sonar http://www.cakewalk.com

Take a look at this topic for softsynths: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forum/s...&threadid=53370

I like Vaz Modular, it sounds really good.

Pro-Tools should really not be considered a creational tool. Think of it as a audio recording (tape deck)/mastering program with very limited MIDI capibility. It's incredible with audio, but pig in snow when it comes to compiling an intricate sequence of midi/audio/vst (virtually not possible). There are cracked versions of PT 5.x LE floating about, but you still won't want to use it.

Artists who say they use Pro-Tools always have a front=end sequencer...predominantly Logic.

I'm a Logic user, and it's simply the best sequencer on the market IMO. They just went all MAC support, so expect it to become even more rock solid as it is. I have Logic material sent to my engineer for mastering in a PT TDM environment.
