Ok, so lets say you want to remix a track, how do you get the song in a form that you can edit? If you want to use a different base line, how do you isolate the base in the original and get rid of it?

you dont, thats the point of remixing, u build everything from scratch, maybe u will use a lead or a vocal, but i dont think u will use more than that...

I think most professional remixes use samples that the record label or original artist has given them. The rest of them are remade from scratch. It's almost impossible to perfectly isolate something from a song and have it sound really good.

dont think remixers have to build the melody and all from the scratch... i think they use midi files, like most ppl here on the forums do to do a remix
so they have all the original melodies and bassline's..(ofcourse they can do something totally different, but thats up to them..)
why using a midi file??????? whats the problem to remake the melody on ur own? and even the pro's are doing remix from scratch, except vocals, special leads, etc. ever heard
cosmic gate - the truth (dj isaak remix)?
i dont think he used any of the original sounds except the vocal...

Because then you can actually concentrate on the remixing and nothing else?

using sounds and using a midi file are 2 different things. a midi file does not contain any of the orignal sythns...only notes. so i didnt say that pro's were using the same sounds.
as mr. mysery said, by using midi files they can only concentrate on remixing and not on getting the notes of the melody right...
and about the isaac remix...i cant remember it now... but as far as i know isaac doesnt use too much of melody in his songs (besides, the melody of the truth is easy to recreate..i have even done that:roll: )
but take the melody from ligaya..that will take a lot more time to rebuild and so the remixers wont reach the remix deadline...

your right about that, i forgot that usualy remixers are getting paid and have deadline, which i dont...
anyway i think that a midi file is kinda gets all the fun of finding all the notes and maybe building a new melody instead of the existing...

although im not really good at it... and its no fun in reason...just clicking with the mouse.. finding the notes on a paino or synth is much more fun, but i dont have one of those

How do you go about getting the notes from the midi file, just listen to it over and over and sit next to a keyboard? Or is there something you can use that extracts the notes from the midi.

Most music programs can import the midi data straight into the tune.
