have you scanned for spyware, adware, viruses and all that junk?
If so, stop visiting the online gambling sites!

Well why don't you use System Restore to a time you think might have been working fine?
Last time System Restore made me sane again after this ads kept popping up on my computer which no software could remove.. only system restore did the job, though if that doesnt work, get yourself Norton System Works and enable Norton Go Back and use some of the utilities of that.

jolene - back up all your media, mp3, data, etc to a dvd.
round up all your program cds including windows.
format c: and reinstall windows, install programs, and restore all data
itll take about 1 afternoon of boredom and it will pay you back handsomly with a smooth running system =)
seriously.. reinstalls should be at least a yearly thing for everyone
