For those who get promo/pre-release tracks from record labels...

How do you get on their lists? Do you just write to them? Or is there a sneakier way?

I have a fortnightly internet radio slot about to begin and although I keep my musical repertoire reasonably up to date, it would be very nice to be able to give listeners a sneak preview.

Anyone in the know?

it is a tough thing to get involved in, alot of it is to do with networking and contacts. other labels you can pay to be on their promo lists. some labels will be generous in promoting their stuff if you write to them explaining your situation and what your about musically and how you can assist them.

i sugest starting with smaller labels and working your way up. Also becoming friends with producers internationally can assist.

It all really comes down to networking and meeting people. I have been lucky in the past through some of the DJ's that i have toured, but it's not all it's cracked up to be either. Most labels are pretty hit and miss lol

Thanks for the replies - yes, I had a feeling that was how it worked. My problem is that my favourite labels are bigger ones. :P
I'll have to warm up my e-mail fingers.

And it looks like myspace is becoming more and more necessary...

Every second Saturday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, starting on 16 December.

It'll be pre-recorded sets to start with, I don't have the set up or bandwidth for a live broadcast.

Oh and it's on at www.mixsd.net. Although there's nothing being broadcast there yet, it launches on the 1st.

all the best with your radio show campaign they're fun to do and it really does assist with your contacts when you start to get some big names in to do guestmixes. It can get time consuming to do however,.
