I go to monash.. the Peninsula campas is about 45 minutes out of Melbourne in good traffic, I'm not sure what the trains are like down there but I don't think there are any.. There is also an inter-campas bus service.. I know there's one that goes Caulfield - Clayton, Clayton - Berwick but I'm not sure if there's a bus to the Peninsula campas.
As far as accomodation goes you should have no trouble finding somewhere to live.. the property market has taken a bit of a dive recently so there are lots of places renting cheaply, but by far the cheapest place you'll find to live is the Uni Halls.. its not much.. but its a bed, a desk, a communal kitchen common area etc, and a WHOLE LOT OF FUN. (10 minutes walk to the nearby pub) That's about $120AU a week, compared with average $200 - $280 for a 2 bedroom apartment in the suburbs (more closer to the city).
Now there are halls at Clayton.. if there is an inter-campas bus this would be a good option. But I'm not sure if there are halls at Peninsula campas too (there may well be as that campas attracts alot of student from rural areas)
Work is also fairly easy to find atm, I myself found a nice job after 3 days of looking and I don't have much experience at all.
(Oh and to use the train/bus/tram system all day anywhere is $5.40 for students (I don't have a concession card, which atm is about $80 to buy (hardly worth it IMO), but the students are lobbying to have that taken way down, cause its only $16 for high school kids, so that may well to lower soon, but I always select that option anyways) or about $7.20 for full fair)
Any questions on that?
