Favourite Non Trance Cds?

What are everyones favourite non-trance cds?

For me, one is defineatly System Of A Down - Toxicity, so much energy in all the of the songs, decent lyrics as well. Other than this cd I dont like metal at all. Strange

At the total opposite end of the scale

Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet - Requiem for a dream soundtrack. This is mostly all classical and instrumental music, but, its truely amazing. Especially after seeing the movie, and then associating the music with the scenes (if you havent seen the movie, do so now, be warned though, its hugely depressing), there is a huge progression of emotions. Generally leading down to sadness. The music is defineatly beautiful though.

An Honourable mention goes to the fight club soundtrack.

Powderfinger - Internationalist. Every song on that album is just pure class.

One of my favourite non trance CDs is Pink Floyd- The Wall. Well, it's not actually a CD as such. It's my dad's record from 20 or so years ago and I decided to take it one day. The Wall is amazing...when I listen to it I am taken away on a journey, so it's quite similar to trance in that aspect. The lyrics are so involving and emotional. There's this strange vibe that The Wall gives me that makes it so good.

The same goes for one of my other non trance favourites, Björk- Homogenic. This CD is also quite engaging, and Björk's voice is beautiful. She always sounds so passionate. There is this mysterious energy about her music, and I love the lyrics to her songs. Brilliant stuff.

Requiem for a Dream is one of my favourite movies. Darren Aronofsky is a genius. I can imagine that this soundtrack must be incredibly moving, just like the movie. I must buy it!

Yes, yes, yes!!! I love that album. Actually last Wednesday I performed the song Nobody Home at our College Arts evening. It's fantastic to hear that people don't just listen to trance!

i just answered that couple days ago, so i'll quote myself.

surprisingly, they sounded better when they went back to their Joy Division root, and when synthesizers took a backseat. brilliant songwriting. Peter Hook's killer bass. Bernard Sumner's poignant lyrics and singing. what do you get? New Order. absolutely no filler here. best lyrics?

(2) Primal Scream - XTRMNTR
bad boys. baaad, baaaaaaaad boys. they'll break your window, throw beer bottle at your car, and scream at you . from Kill All Hippies' "Hello this is gorgeous, anybody out there read me? ...you've got money, i've got soul" to "COME ON, COME ON, HIT THE ACCELERATOR, ACCELERATOR" in Accelerator, from "your autosuggestion psychology, elimination policy. a military industrial, illusion of democracy" and the electronic swirl in Swastika Eyes to the legendary "fuck off, you're sick, fuck, fuck, sick, fuck, fuck, sick, fuck, fuck, sick, fuck, fuck, sick, fuck, fuck..." in Pills, from the eerie trippy sound in Keep Your Dreams to the monstrous MBV arkestra (if they move, kill them)... it's all hall-of-famers here. bad boys . mobs . maniacs . call them faeces if you like, they just don't give it a flying fuck

(1) Massive Attack - Mezzanine
trip-hop at its best! dark music at its best!! sleaze at its best!!! you'll listen to it when you're driving home, then play it again in the kitchen when you're making supper; you'll listen to it for the rest of your life when you're stranded in a island, or serving in a prison; you'll even want to play it when you're making love. no, seriously, i mean it, you will. hahaha.

favourite Aussie album: frente - marvin the album
(this is an Aussie forum after all, so why not?)

Another classic Australian album that I forgot to mention is:
Avalanches - Since I left you

As far as I'm aware, Avalanches are a bunch of 9 DJs who collect really old records and use them as the basis of their music.

The best part of the whole album is in Frontier Psychiatrist when DJ Dexter makes the noise of a parrot by scratching a record. Just amazing!

When i think about it, i really dont have many trance CDs... lotsa prog trance/house and hiphop. I download my trance, and in recent times...there haven't been any albums that i've downloaded and then gone and bought cos they were so good. The quality's gone down in my humble opinion.. i needa download an awesome mix/cd to get my trance roots back...any suggestions? heheh :P
