Aye, I know it sounds weird, but here's a proper explanation of what I'm thinking about:
Wouldt it be useful if we could know whenever there's a topic that we're interested on? For example, if you're a prog head, you could know whenever there's a thread about prog, or Sasha or Sammy everytime a thread had these words in the title (or whenever a post had this words, although I reckon in this case the poor person would be flooded with e-mails every 5 minutes). I know in my case I would like to know whenever there's a thread about Brazil and trancestep, for example.

Sounds like a great idea that would be difficult to implement. Would also be handy for the amateur music producers of the forums, allowing them to see where their music is being played/discussed.

Isn't it the same system as subscribing to threads? What would be the difficulty of implementing it?
In my humble opinion such feature would be worth the hard work, but I guess it's up to Swamper.

something like this has crossed my mind in the past, so i could get info when there is a thread about bangkok + trance. something like that i guess.
it would be great to get a popup window when you get onto TA with a list of new threads with the specified keywords in them. swamper, this would rock beyond words

It's kind of different, because the server already knows when each thread has new posts, but in order to do the same thing with search results it would have to re-run the search to get an update, and then there is the question of how often it can be done, etc. At least that's how it appears to me.
The only other way to go about it would be update the submission system to track those words, but looking up thousands of users' "hot lists" at submission type would probably suck up resources too, not to mention what if posts get edited/deleted/etc... sounds needlessly complicated.
Nevertheless, it would be cool.

That's an interesting idea.
E-mailing it to you would be impractical because it would have to somehow be scheduled on the server and it would bog things down badly most likely.
It might be more realistic to have it search posts submitted since your last visit every time you visit the board for the given string and pop up a new window - like a PM notification - containing a list of those threads which contained the string.
Put an inactivity delay on it of about 30 minutes or so, that way it would only have cause the same workload as performing 1 manual search every time you visit the forum. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to implement and it wouldn't be too heavy a load on the server either.
It's not exactly the functionality you're looking for but it might accomplish the same purpose and it would be a heckuva lot more realistic.

methinks it would kill the server, it takes long enough to search as it is, just keep searching if u really wanna
