Post Thread Page incredibly slow on my computer.

I think its all the damn animated smilies, but my computer isn't even that slow (its a 1.33GHz G4 Mac which is probably equivalent to a 2GHz PC). Does anyone else have this problem?

it is more likely down to the speed of your connection, or the times at which you use the forums. they can get slow at peak times.

I should have worded that differently. My connection is fine, what I mean is once the page is loaded it slows down my system, like it would take 30 seconds for me to type this sentence because its so slow, unless I scroll down so most of the smilies aren't visible (thus I've narrowed it down to the smilies slowing everything down). Also I just tried it in a different browser (Safari instead of Camino) and its a bit faster. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep scrolling down before I write the post, or maybe I'll switch back to Safari.

shouldnt have anything to do with smilies, try disaballing the graphicsc in your browser to see what happens though, the actual txt content is very small

I'm pretty sure its all the damn smilies. When they're all visible it takes forever to type anything, but once I scroll down so they're not visible it goes almost normal speed. Go figure.

ive never had aproblem at all, even back in my 56k days (and that was using a P3 450mhz pc to) using either IE, mozilla on windows or mozilla on linux, the problem lies with your browser/operating system, not the site. maybee its something to do with the way it handles animated gifs?

It doesn't do it on other forums. I think its just because theres so many fucking smilies, and theyre anoying too, can I turn them off somehow?

profile button at top of screen, then click edit options, scroll down and above the avartar setting is a checkbox saying enable vbcode in posts (or similar, turn it off and that turns off the smilies.

even so, it won't have anything to do with the smilies. they are gif's, so once they have loaded once they do not need to be loaded again. it sounds like something iffy is on your system, try running some spyware removal software such as spysweep or adaware.

excatly. once a page loads it really doesn't take any memory. if your running XP hit ctrl alt del once a page loads and look at what process is taking up all the memory. I also echo the spyware thing.

it will still be some sort of software based problem (i.e. not caused by tranceaddict itself). definitely check what stuff is running and make sure anything that shouldn't be, isn't
