Well, I rented it and I guess I'm the only one here who has a positive opinion on this game.
The city is VERY large, from Downtown LA to the Hollywood Hills and to the "Venice" district, and a long coastal area with excellent detail. The city is HUGE and takes hours to explore it all, I'd say it's around 6 times the size of Vice City. Handlingwiwse, yes it's not particularly realistic, but neither is Vice City. I found the missions to be quite a lot of fun, and spent a lot of my time indoors on the 3 days I rented it, and am planning to buy it soon.
The missions are pretty standard fare, no better than other games of the type but they're not half bad either.
