Sad Dead Ps2

my shite died today. or
i am in between those two emoticons.
i got it when it barely came out here in the US and
it died today. good thing i didn't waste money on any
new games recently. should i buy another one or just wait for
PS3 to come out. i don't really play much until i am in winter
or summer vacation. Winter is already here and I only have one more week of school.

chinge su madre.

it turns on but it doesn't play anything. so obviously i tried to run a cd cleaner. didn't take. so i tried a dvd cleaner. it won't read either. is there another way i am not familiar with that i can clean it with.

most likely will just wait for PS3, if i can't fix it.
it had a good run.

you could try to clean out the inside with a compressed air can, and then use a DVD cleaner. (computer stores have em)

is it making a ticking sound when trying to load stuff? cause if it is, its most likely just dirt - but if not its truly crapped!

get a gamecube for the time being! only 99 bucks|

Mine started to crap out as well. The best way to fix it is to open it up and clean out the dust.

I did it a couple of weeks ago and now it runs like a champ.

quick question. how far did you open it. i only removed the bottom half and did a quick clean job. i am pretty sure it just needs to be cleaned. when the drive opens i can see a lot of dust inside. still not working.

hey biz i am pressuming you use the air compressed can pointing towards the open drive. it is making that ticking sound. there may be hope yet folks. step by step explanation if you don't mind
i am kind of slow.

umm i dunno. ive never had to open mine or use the air can. my friend had a gen 1 ps2 he thot was dead. it made the ticking sounds and the aircan worked for him a bit, until he got a DVD cleaner afterwards. i would think spraying anywhere near the laser and anywhere else would help tho. i should try, since mine isnt working so hot either!

Contact Sony - There's a phone # in the ps2 instruction booket or just call EB or something and ask them for the # (I think that's what I did)

I got mine right when they came out too, and I found out that a lot of the first one's were defective and when mine died I sent it to Sony and they fixed it for free (Only had to pay for shipping) And it took about a month. I bought a new ps2 at Sears in the meantime and just took it back when I got my fixed one back.

It worked out good for me, good luck if you try it (or something simular)

I took the whole entire top part off. It gets pretty dusty in there too. After it's cleaned up it still might take a couple times to load the first game. But after the first successful load, every new disk you put in, it loads right away.
