Nic Fanciulli is a young and fresh DJ, producer and remixer - currently one of the hottest rising talents in the UK.
Fanciulli started his career playing the usual round of bars and worked in his local record shop in Maidstone from the age of 16. His first break came five years ago after slipping unmarked mix tapes to Maidstone’s Club Class promoter. After the 3rd tape and a 6-week hunt by the promoter Fanciulli was given a weekly main room residency.

The same year (aged 19) Fanciulli, along with some friends, started two record labels: Portent Records and Portent Plus. The first track signed being Mojolators ‘Drifting’, which was then signed on to Multiply after Pete Tong played it for 14 weeks in a row on his Essential Selection show.
Through Club Class, Fanciulli has gained massive respect from DJs across the spectrum for his unique take on house music. Xpress2 proclaimed him their tip for the top in October 2002, whilst Tong said he was the finest resident in the UK as well as props from Yousef and Seb Fontaine along the way.

In the last year alone, Fanciulli has played for Cream in the UK and Ibiza, for Defected throughout the world, for the Radio 1 weekends in Ibiza, Miami and Cardiff as well as for the Radio 1 Outdoor stage at Homelands & Glastonbury. Plus gigs at Shindig, The Arches, Passion, Circus, Type and he’s recently started a new back-room residency with The Gallery at Turnmills on the first Friday of every month. His room (T2), called Fandango, is purely for Fanciulli to invite DJs he respects and to push the finest new-breed through the ranks – so far including Rocky and Diesel (X-Press2), Yousef, Paul Woolford, Krysko, MYNC, Mark Knight and more to come. MTV tipped Fanciulli for the top in their young-guns series @WMC 2003, he mixed a covermount CD for Mixmag and in May, Fanciulli did his first ever Radio 1 Essential Mix – where Tong described him as one of the finest residents and best up-and-coming producers in the UK. In Dec this year this was followed up by the half hour hot mix on Tong’s show !!!

Fanciulli’s production and remix work (under his Skylark banner) has also stepped up a gear this year, pushing him through as both an artist and DJ. His remixes of Jo Mills’ 4Tune 500 ‘Dancin in the Dark’ achieved ‘Essential New Tune’ status back in XXXX, whilst his remixes of Sandy Rivera’s ‘I Cant Stop’ (Deep Vision), Deep Dish’s ‘Prahna The Dream’ (Yoshitoshi) and Xpress2’s ‘Muzik’ (JBO) clearly illustrate why he is in demand. In August Fanciulli once again achieved Essential New Tune with his own production work (as Sky Lark) with ‘That’s More Like It’.

should be a good night! Is EDM with a couple of heavy hitting DJ's on wednesday something they are gonna try to get going regularly?

Slide on a wednesday night was my first time clubbing in SF Aug 07. They gotta keep that slide open for the patrons, was a fun way to start my SF clubbing experiences. my gf at the time wanted to go down the slide but she was wearing a dress and that was against the sliding rules.

Guess they want to avoid direct competition on Thursday with Vessel. They've done it a few times with big DJs on Thursday with disappointing results, even with Vessel's regular Thursday promoters.

Vessel has already taken the time and energy to work out a formula that works for them, so that they can fill the club even with a local headliner.

Ruby Skye and Slide have all the experience and connections they need to run a successful EDM week night. I mean if Vessel can do it, I am sure they can do it. They just need a little patience to figure out what works for them, like they've found out that promoters are not the key.

If there's one thing I think Slide has that may hurt it for a regular weeknight party, it's that it can be darrrrk inside. Vessel, 111 Minna, other places that have done well on weekday nights on a regular basis tend to be brighter.

Slide kicks the crap out of those other places overall, IMO. But I like it dark!

The lighting guy often makes it dark in Vessel when the club is filled with people, so I don't think it matters that much. Vessel somehow is able to get the party vibe going, get people dancing by 11:30pm, and the party takes off from there. I think this is the key. But others might have different perspectives.

I've only been to Vessel a couple times, but Slide was pretty much pitch dark with like a light on the DJ and a flashing light over the floor and the lights that were INSIDE the bar itself. Ahh, so dark. It was nice. It was like 1015 on a dark night. Orrrr, Ruby Skye when Digweed plays and has the lights turned down as much as possible (sometimes even asking for the projector to be turned off...Diggers is awesome). THen again, I've only been to slide for special events there....so maybe the lighting there isn't usually as dark as it was the few times I've been.

When Vessel was dark (though I only showed up there three times ever...not big on the crowd and sound was bleh), there was still an ambience to the place. Slide kinda has none. It's kinda meant so people can be private in their groups. Like a place for the mob to hang out or something :P

Slide has sucked the past few times... actually every time! Either too packed and/or sound sucks. ugh sound for Nine and Umek was just horrible (Umek's set was garbage too). There has been a few good nights at Vessel including Paul Ritch live or Hernan Cattaneo (best SF set yet!). Either way I dislike both venues... although Vessel tends to bring a nice techno/house crowd (and vibe) that rarely steps into that venue. I've missed out on the Burridge nights there too, can't imagine how sick those were Oh Digweed was meh last time too. Seriously, Ruby why did you let a bongo player in? Diggers last hour was the worst I've heard from him too. He used to play crazy epic last hours too What a waste of good mushrooms...
