Dunno HELP with New Club...

I'm investing into this all ages club by end of july/early august and I'm stuck... We're trying to recreate our most successful event of the mid-90's. I know I'll make money if I do it all hip hop, but the location has 3 rooms. I wanna turn one of them into Trance, another hip hop, and the other... maybe into a lounge.... What do you think? What can I do to make the trance room happen? Most of my money is already going into the hip hop room, but I love trance and EDM... I haven't done an EDM All Ages club since 1999, so I feel like a damn rookie... lol... HELP!!!!!!! WHAT should I do?

Fortunately, you prob can't make it as popular, considering how 'in' hip-hop is.

I am glad that there are way fewer bandwagon jumpers here in dance music land.

And you don't really have any type of image that one can project as a TA. No bling bling or anything.

ok end rant/

Well I guess what you ahve to do is cater to what the people like.....besides the music.

for me it is 1, cheap drinks. Have some drink specials in your room. of course they walk in, buy drink and leave, but they still hear the music, and they populate the room....

of course if you can't sell alcohol cause its all ages....it doens't work as well...but its an idea.

other than music, and beer, I only go out for the women, so stock the room full of young girls. you'll be set .

other than that, advertise the hell out of it, get the word out....

hope it works out.

Honestly, trance rooms are rarely successful at hip hop clubs. The Boogie used to have a tiny trance room, but the last time I went there (a couple years ago), they closed the room down!!! Oh well, they played cheese in there anyway.

The Century Club has a trance room that has been successful though. I think the reason it has been working, is because they have so many promoters, that bring in different types of crowds.

Woody, I know that the type of crowds u usually dj for are into hip hop, so I don't know if the trance room idea will work out for you. Maybe u should try getting more promoters that can bring in different crowds, and maybe give out flyers @ Spundae & Avalon.... or advertise your club on wantickets.com. I don't know what other advice to give ya.

i almost opened a club but it was in taiwan, ended up not doing it cause one of my bros sister passed away and his dad wont let him get into drinking business since he is da last child in house hold. anywas.. but we were thinking bout hip-hop N trance in da same club...not gonna work...imagine ravers with drunks...ravers gonna feel uncomfortable, drunks gonna laugh at ravers..stuff like dat...it dont mix...maybe expand later on, but when u start u should really go with one music.

what you should maybe do is do a strong Hip Hop night on Fridays and a strong Trance/House night on Saturdays or viceversa.

so bring in a trance headliner on one nite then hiphop the other nite.
have the headliners play in the big rooms. and in the smaller rooms put the opposite genre of the headliner with some local

the best way to get people to come is like Nou said promote the shit out of it. you can almost never do too much promotion. droping a bunch of fliers at HS are good. maybe get some kids at a local HS who will always be on the guest list if they distribute flyers at their school.
also bring in local headliners. find DJ's that have lots of friends that can fill the club.
if you could i'd turn that third room into a bar for 21 uppers. its really hard to make money at a club if your not serving drinks.

another thing you could do is make a hookah bar in the club. i've always thought that would be a cool thing ot have in a club and you can have that in an all ages place.

where is this club gonna be? i'd be happy to help out a bit if i can. if you need a proggy trance/house DJ i'm happy to spin for you

i agree, that hip hop and trance don't really work at the same club. i'm not saying that it's never worked or won't ever work, i'm just saying that it's not an easy mix. they are two different crowds of people who (in my experience) often conflict in vibe. i would vote for having different music on different nights. However, if you can't get the promotion out, and the intake for the trance nights, you'll be in a financial jam. i've been to clubs who split the night as well. have trance from early until 10pm, then hip hop for late night. you might be able to keep your financial earnings that way. but i admit, the places i've been to that split up the night are not as enjoyable because all the techno people leave as soon as the music switches. but it's an option to cater to both.

good luck

it wouldn't be just an L.A. thing it would be state wide. And in california you cannot sell alcohol past 2 a.m. which really doesn't make much sense... how amy i suppose to plan the rest of the next day if i can't get my alochol after 2am?
