Best Point & Shoot for Club?

So, what's the verdict...

What is the best Point & Shoot camera for Clubs?
Which one can record video is 720P HD and not get distorted sound from club sound systems?

Which one takes good pictures in the low light?

Let me know what you think

ever since the canon sdx80 series was released, starting with the sd880is, canon has gotten the mic clipping problem of digicam past down. you can't really fail with any $300-400 canon p&s now.

Another vote for the Canon as the go-to point and shoot camera in clubs.

Canon SD980 has a better lens than the 990. It has a wide-angle lens. And since most pictures are taken within a relatively close proximity, this will come in handy too often to count.

You want wide angle + fast lens. In additional to the Canon, I will add the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 which is THE best point and shoot. Has a 24mm f2.0 lens versus the Canons 24mm f2.8. That extra 0.8 stop makes a big difference in low light situations. The DMC-LX3 is currently the low light king of pocket camera's and its basically the pro/enthusiast's pick when they don't want to haul around a dSLR.

No idea how well the mic works in a club setting though. The Canons do great there. Still love my 870IS.

The only thing that sucks about the LX-3 (my buddy has one) is there is a lot of noise in dark shots. Maybe it is his ISO setting or something though.

I just moved up from the SD870is (it is now our scuba camera since it's still wide angle and we have the watertight box for it)

to the SD940is.

the 940 has the same wide angle as the 870. You can get slightly wider now (I think the 980 or 990 as mentioned above), but that's going to get you a bigger camera body. All do 720p now which is awesome.
I would say the mic clipping is improved, but standing on top of the base tube in Amnesia, well, it's what you'd expect. Also, the form factor on the 940 is SMALL!!! That and 720p were the reasons I moved up.
If I can't have the camera with me all the time, it's not worth it. The form factor is pretty sweet for sneaking it into those clubs in Ibiza in your crotch

I have not looked for a club cam for a couple years. However, what you want is one with a large CCD sensor and fast (low F) lens. At the time, the Fuji F10/F11/F20/F30/F31fd had the best sensors. I first had an F11 and later got an F31fd (still my main P&S cam). The Fuji's after the F31fd (F40, F50) went to a higher mega-pixel, but smaller, sensor and did not have the performance of the F31fd (at the time I had to pay more for my used F31fd off Ebay than F40's were going for new).

I would check dpreview.com and dcresource.com to see what they say about the cameras' high ISO performance. Canon was never a leader in this area before but things may have changed. I understand from some brief checking that the latest Fuji's (F200xxx) are back to using some large sensors.

Still using my F30 (thanks, Greg!) but looking to upgrade soon. Would love to zoom during videos, have HD, no mic. clipping, superior low light shots and remarkable battery life. In short, I just want it all, and for less than $300.
