Problems with my digital camera and the images...

Hi !!! To all... Thanks god I have this forum to ask this...
I have this problem and I would like to know if there is any solution=
Everytime I take photos from my digital camera I have to open each one on my computer and do these two things with each file:
1] Put a name like: "photos_in_my_house_29_06_06-001".
2] And save them into de JPG format [so as to save space].

Is there any tool to make this more easy ?. Picassa from Google would be of any help ?. Pls if u had the same problem and know what could I do, pls help me...

p.d.: Imagine what would be to do that if u have 245 photos... It would be awful !!!!
