Infected Mushroom, Sound-bar, Chicago, 2005-01-07 Report
The words can’t begin to describe tonight’s party. ButI will try nonetheless…
Mushroom opened with a live performance with them singing, doing the keyboards and synths—a first for me and just un-effing-believable. IM were set up on a special podium for that. Live portion included cherry picks from their albums and concluded with a song from IM Supervisor (don’t remember the name)--it was awesome.
The live portion was over at around 2:45 the IM moved to DJ booth (is that what it is called?). The mixing was nothing to write home about, but the track selection was simply mind-blowing. Needless to say that we can’t feel our legs right now or hear very well…
About SoundBar. A couple of times that we’ve been there the crowds were somewhat obnoxious and most came simply to show off. This time it was different, plenty of goa heads, and just nice people, singing along and knowing every beat of every track played. The sound at the Sound Bar is the best I’ve heard at a club, which amply made up for a somewhat unfortunate layout of the dance floor.
I asked the club employees if the recording of the night's set could be purchased--the answer was no. THe question for fellow TAs, can it be purchased or downloaded?
