Chretien did not want to join the US coalition since Canada's stance has traditionally been to abide by the United Nation's decisions whether they be good or bad.
my rant: Laws, courts, security councils, call them what you may are meant to establish order in our world and society, but yes, sometimes courts do end up letting criminals or rogue nations and the like back onto the streets but this doesn't mean that we should simply disregard it (laws, etc.) when it doesn't meet our best interests.

it's a problem that the US will soon have to face up to as well. By helping Canada, it is only in their best interests..
Canada would have done the same had the outbreak started in the US instead of Toronto. I don't think it's appropriate to draw any sort of correlation between SARS and the Iraq War.
