They can be a little shady but it forces you to confirm everything about 100 times, so you're unlikely to suffer from any technical fault.

It may be easier to throw away or change your vote, but I really don't think election officials would have too much trouble doing that either way - just look at what happened in 2000 with paper ballots.

But this machines can get brain freezed and hacked.. leaving no copy or paper trail of what you voted for, which is the main problem.

Not really, they aren't connected to the internet so in order to hack them you would have to do it standing there in the polling location which would require gross negligence on the part of the volunteers present. They also print a receipt of sorts upon which your vote is recorded.
