Question Political type games! (no seriously)

Did anyone used to like playing board games dealing with war and politics?
Examples:
- Shogun
- Axis and Allies
- Risk

I can think of a few others...

I was just doing some Spring cleaning and came across my old game of Shogun (since renamed, "Samurai Swords").
Looks like I still have all the pieces too; love that game!

Anyone have a good political computer game in mind?
Civ IV is awesome btw...

The best Civ game was #2. They had a scenario where you could play WW2. IT was a lot of fun the new crap seems like the time goes by way too fast to accomplish anything or I could just be bad a civ.

Yup.

I played Axis and Allies a ton with my brothers (my favorite board game I think). Before Axis and Allies we played risk, and after we played Axis and Allies we played Risk 2210 AD after agreeing that Axis and Allies is biased against the Axis.

As for computer games, I agree with Metal that Civ 2 was the best of them all (the first civ game I started playing). Civ 3 and 4 have been ok, but not enough to grab my attention to play them more then once.

I prefer the games from the Europa Universalis series these days from Paradox Entertainment:
Europa Universalis 2
Victoria - an Empire under the Sun

Their newest titles apparently is "Hearts of Iron II Doomsday" but I just found out when going to the webstie that they are planning a Europa Universalis 3 by this time next year (can't wait!).

The link: http://www.paradoxplaza.com/othertitles.asp

Other then that I can't find many strategy games that interest me now anymore. When I was young, I was heavy into RTS like C&C and Red Alert, but not anymore...

Don't like any of the more modern battle sims (total war) even though I thought I should...

Civ 4 has a ton of civs and it's increasingly easy to make your own scenario. You can digitally import any topographic map (find them on google) of any area in about 3 minutes and the game will generate resources accordingly; you can also randomize them or place them yourself. As far as setting up territories, it's as easy as using MS Paint.

Civ4 ships with a couple scenarios, and many more can be had on civfanatics and other sites

Ive never really gotten that much into newer Civ games, beaten 1 and 2 about 10 times each though

I still prefer a good tycoon game anyway, Transport Tycoon, Rollerocoaster Tycoon, locomotion, A IV Network$, Theme Park...
