Tom deLaubenfels live on EDM Sound System 08-23-2008
I did my fairly-regular FM radio gig again last night, and I think it went really well. I managed to accomplish what I wanted to express musically (which can be hard to do in 2 hours when you've got varied tastes), while keeping the mixing and flow pretty much on point the entire time. Since I haven't posted a mix in a long time, I figured this deserved its own thread. Enjoy
Dubacid - Beatport (Brendon Moeller Mix)
Manoo - Winter
Alex Niggeman - L'Aurora (Russ Gabriel Mix)
Band of Flys - Black Thighs (Bondi Mix)
Tigerskin - Volar
Manukan - Tide B (Dave DK Mix)
Palm Skin Productions - Magnetic North
The Youngsters - Rock To The Beat
Steve Rachmad - Surdosong
The Youngsters - Phoenix
Daso - Det (Schatrax Mix)
Valentino Kazyani - Unexpected Cure
Robert Babicz - Hope
Underworld - Rez
Dennis Ferrer - Sandcastles
Chymera - Pillars In My Heart
Joris Voorn - Blank (Deetron Mix)
Bs As Deep - Lost Woman
Christian Prommer's Drumlesson - Matched Grip
Simon Baker - U
Miniminds - Miniminds
Christian Smith - Flyertalk
This is beautiful, Tom. I have always loved how much overlap there is between the artists and tracks we play, yet it seems our sets wind up being so different. This is classic Tom, it really maintains the brooding, deep techy sound of a lot of the tunes while still keeping with a very housey vibe overall (something I've always thought you've done well - still listen to whichever old EDM soundsystem set you posted that had Dragon Loop in it).
The section from Kanzayani through Underworld was one of the most original sounding house pieces I've heard in a while - and I relish any chance I get to hear original Underworld productions in any set.
Oh, also - I just wanted to note how remarkable I think it is that you are able to post as many live sets as you do.
It's a testament to your talent, and speaking as someone who is not only very, very self conscious about sharing live sets (I make no qualms about not having everything hit all the time), but also absolutely obsessive over how his promo sets are put together, I find it very, very impressive to see how consistently quality you are.
Bump for quality. I suck at writing reviews. If you like anyone on the discoteca label with some original surprises thrown in, dl. Do it.

Seriously, whenever Tom just chills out and has fun, it's always epic. That usually happens when he's playing out.
