here is my trance mix I made this march. I'm quite new at trance mixing and maybe my lack of skill can be heared in the mix. Well, you decide. I mixed with Pioneer CDJ-100s.

The tracklist is made of some older and some newer tracks:

Well, enjoy and let me hear some comments.

Sloppy and disorganized are the first words that come to mind after listening to your set. This was evident in your tracklist's arrangement alone but because I never judge a set by its 'cover' I decided to give this one a try. Unfortunately this was just as I expected and by this I mean that you need to focus more on understanding your tracks a little better. Once this is down tight, I can almost guarantee you that your flow will improve. You'll notice how certain tracks do a better job at complementing each other during a mix where others do not. Another thing you need to work on is the build. I equate build to telling a story or taking me on a trip. With your set it felt more like a bumpy ride. To elaborate, I'm referring to each track's level of energy. There are way too many ups and down which really leaves the listener lost as to what you're trying to achieve. On the upside I love most of the tracks on your tracklist just not mixed in this way.

Technically, there's not a lot to be said except that the beatmatching needs some work. Also your eq'ing is a hell of a lot better than I could do so much props to you for that. I look forward to a more new and improved set from you so happy deejaying rokk.

Maybe you are right about the flow, track choice and build but I don't think I'm able to really understand what you mean at this time... maybe I will some day

I simply picked songs I like most and put them together in a way I believed they would fit together...

True about beatmatching, there were some slightly offbeat mixes but I didn't want to mix the whole mix again because of them... so sorry for that

I listened to your mix too, and it's really great! Don't see anything wrong with your eq'ing at all...

Don't get me wrong, I loved most of the tracks, but like I said there was too much going on. To exaggerate a little bit here's what I'm trying to say: Suppose I made a 30 minute mix on the fly and I played my tracks as follows:

1)Jones & Stephenson - First Rebirth
2)James Holden - One For You
3)Orbital - Halcyon
4)Bob Sinclar - The Ghetto
5)Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy

Even though I love each and every track on the above list I would never mix out in this way because it just sounds awful and there are too many styles of music clashing all at the same time. I hope you understand what I mean now, if not, like you said you'll learn.

Yes, I see what you mean now.

But probably it's because I was working as a DJ in a different musical environment where linearity means dullness and where you have to change the tempo, style and even the genre after the third song at the latest to keep the audience attracted and to keep them on the dancefloor... i guess with trance it's a different story, so thanks for the insight From now on, I want to play trance only so I have to learn how it works.
