Wink Retrospective Trance Mix, Progressive/Tech House Mix

Hey guys, after getting done with this semester I needed a break. So I decided putting a few tracks I really liked together in one set (from over an original list of 80 or so). I wasn't entirely sober when I mixed this, so there's a few rough transitions lol. I didn't have any particular year in mind but they ended up being mostly "newer" tracks, not that I like most of the new ones that come out these days oddly enough. Plus, I listen to DJ like Holden and Nick Warren mostly now, don't listen to much trance anymore. There's way too many cheesy tracks in most sets by even the better DJs these days so I had to make one of my own. So here it is.

EDIT: Alright, I'm done mixing this one again too.

EDIT: Just added this:

Alright, I decided to redo this one first. I'm actually quite pleased with how it turned out. The title pretty much describes this mix; with the exception of D.E.E.P.E.R. - Abstraction, all of the tracks are from 2003 and 2004. I payed alot more attention to the progression and mixing this time to make sure the set flows well and I know it sounds cliche, but takes you on a journey. There weren't a whole lot of tracks during those two years that I liked, but I really wanted these well mixed in a set since I really like most of these. When I made this set, I kept in mind that it's something I'd like to listen to for a while, so hopefully you guys will like it too.

Cool, I'm glad you mixed old tracks with the new. It always produces such an interesting sound. This first track reminds me of an earwig trying to dig its way through my brain. Errggg, I don't even want to know what's it's like to listen to this track on drugs. Good transition into track 2, kind of proggy sounding. A little off into this next transition, oh, oh, oh, you fixed it! Good job. New MIKE track, hmmm, techy. Very abrasive. I guess that's the point though. I liked MIKE more back in his Totally Fascinated and pre-2004 days, when he was more of the "dark trance" then the "tech trance." Most artists change to meet current trends...and sometimes it's too bad.

Good choice mixing into Oliver Prime though. He's the NEW dark trance. Your beatmatching is a little off (I'll attribute that to the drunkenness), but excellent track selection. Ever heard Snappiness (Oliver Prime Remix)? That track rocks. Might be too goa-ish for you though. Excellent mix into Numb, sounds perfect. The rest of the mix is very dark, but it's just not my thing. I'm more into the dark & melodic at the same time, but nice job with the transitions. Thanks for posting!

Hehe. Yeah, the beatmatching is a little messed up at parts for the reason you guessed correctly . Glad you guys appreciated the mix though .

All in all a good mix, as mentioned mixing isn't perfect, but it almost adds to the character of the mix.

Good tunes, nice progression.

I could not identify with your mix. Just about all the tracks were a bore to listen to except for M.I.K.E. - Lost My Way and Cassino - Leaving Panic Behind (Flash Brothers Remix) especially that second track, wow! Maybe next time? I can’t offer you any advice on the track selection because all I’m going to tell you is to pick tracks that are less boring, which to you may be fun to listen to so catch-22 it is. I wasn’t bothered too much by the beatmatching like the other people were. There’s nothing a little practice can cure. Overall not my type of set at all, but thanks for sharing shaolin and please don’t be discouraged in releasing more mixes as this is my last review for a long time.

Crap, no wonder the mixing is off. For whatever reason, the pitch dropped down and mucked up the set in the encoding process, for both of those. I just took care of that. I'll be uploading both of those again, along with another set once I finish re-encoding and uploading them. Sorry about that.
