Recording Levels

I ran some comparisons - other "professionaly" mastered cd's, etc. - Everything seemed about right - yours was a bit softer, it sounded like it could be coming from either the RA compression - or maybe you need to be a bit more heavy handed on the outboard compression on your mixer... (3-4:1?) I pretty much crank it on until the levels get noticable - and the kidz never seem to be bothered by too much bass either.. :-)

See ya'

DJ LIQUID: I have listened to your mix, and the levels seem good to me. Mixing is also quite good, how long have you been DJing? Also, could you check out my mix that I did and give me some comments / pointers? It's a thread in this section. Thanks.

Thumbs up

It sounded overall fine to me. If you want to compare to the mix to a regular live mix its fine. Its not as perfect as a compilation mixed cd, cause they use computers to mix them, etc. Those are nearly perfect, and in my opinion, when you are giving out your mixes, they suppose to have a bit of "inperfection" (in a good way).
Im reckon you didnt use the computer to edit it, right?
But it was really good in terms of levels. Im not too much of a House type guy, but some of the mixing was pretty nice too.

You never heard of people editing a live mix (or are you being sarcastic)?
His response was in reference to my comments.
Considering that someone else was comparing Liquid's live mix to a compilation cd.... my comment was to make a point that you cannot compare a live mix to a compilation cd (in terms of technicality), because they use computers to mix the cds, or they extensively edit the cd using computers

umm...simple??

fast music like trance is simple to mix. Its just common sense that fast trakz are easy to mix. Its harder to notice your screw ups when its going at 140+bpm's. House on the other hand is slower. You not only have to take the down beat in to account, but all the other instruments have to be matched as well. With trance you have the beat and the synth. WOW 2 things
With house you have the down beat/kick, snares, hats, claps, other instruments, etc.
