Another year has almost passed us by, so it's time for the annual BEST TA DJ MIXES thread!


PICK YOUR FAVOURITE 5 TA DJ MIXES FROM 2012 AND POST THEM UP


You don't have to rank them in order unless you want to, and if you feel there were too many to pick just 5 from, then feel free to include "honourable mentions". As with previous years threads, please don't nominate your own work, and please only post mixes that have been posted in the DJ Promo forums here.

Also, please include links to the mixes, if possible, so people can go back and have a listen to anything they might have missed.

Uhmm do I even remember any mixes from this year? I don't have any saved on my hard drive which isn't a good thing I guess

I just remember Sand Leaper did this neat really long house mix but I'm too lazy to find it. Was that this year?

June 2018 mix

A bit of a quiet year for mixes on here. It didn't feel like people were being too experimental, in all honesty.

Dave King - Entropy
Had the pleasure of being there when this went down live. Top notch from the man, as ever.

Jon Cockle - Live @ J00F Editions 03/06/12
Another one I was present for, great memory as part of a mental weekend.

Magnetonium's classic trance mix (Forget the name)
The mixing wasn't fantastic, but the flow and music were excellent, and not the obvious early '90s selections.

Ziptnf - Robot Supremacy
For achieving the feat of making me dance around whilst ironing.

Woony: You're probably thinking of "My Radio", which was awesome but 2011. Jan's only set from this year to my knowledge was Nitro, which was good but a bit cumbersome in places.

Yeah, Bierheld was the only guy who really went out on a limb. I was pleased with the way I started the year, Heavy Gravity was really popular. Robot Supremacy and Fractal Geometry finished my year out nicely. Other people had some really solid sets, even if they aren't listed.

Here are my selections:

Individual Mixes

Spike Witney - Time Spent on Ganymede
This mix was definitely my favorite for 2012, I listened to it many times. A massive chillwave set that launches you and your mind into the deepest parts of space. Gorgeous vocals, beautiful melodies, and an atmosphere that has no equal. Fantastic.

Jack Moss - Ain't Nothin Going On But The Funk
Jack Moss comes through at the end of the year with a boss set of funky classics, seamlessly linking hip-hop, big beat, and a variety of breaks. Get yo'self educated, fool!

Dave King/Jon Cockle - Entropy VII

With one of the most dynamic duos TA has ever seen, Jon Cockle and Dave King wowed the crowds at Entropy with their headlining sets. With Jon's high energy trance circuit and Dave's signature psybreaks, they demolished the dancefloors and made me super jealous. I totally wish I could have seen it live.

Jack Moss - Distance Places
Jack Moss lays down a trance set that has become the bar for which future trance sets are judged upon. We are all in awe of Jack's versatile ability to create outstanding mixes in different styles, and can only imagine what he's going to come up with next.

Bierheld - Alae
Bierheld picks up where pozz left off, with a highly complex set of glitchy field recordings and drone ambient followed by some hardcore techno. This mix is not for your inexperienced listener. Experts only please.

InDeepSpace - Psychedelic Exursion Into The Dark Side Of Human Nature
InDeepSpace provided a lesser known drone mix with a wide range of emotions. It was excellent for my long road trip, and could definitely be good for a philosophical thought session.

Sykonee - Mixtape 8: After Airports, Before Orbs
Sykonee gave us all a history lesson with some super old electronica ambient that we were all privileged to learn about. A fantastic mix to discover the origins of today's EDM sound.

Mix Series

Atmospheric Energy - Inspired Podcast
With some of the most consistent sets around, Atmospheric Energy played progressive breaks/house/trance for several months and also showed us he could also be successful with other sounds like DnB and prog-psy.

Spike Witney - Windmill Sessions Redux
Spike never fails to provide the best melodic electronica in the world every time with his Windmill Sessions Redux series. Nobody can do it like he can.

MSZ - Transients
Pure.FM's prog channel was the place to go if you wanted to hear the latest from MSZ's arsenal of Mistiquemusic weapons. With the ability to show us banging house, deep trance or smooth and loungey styles of breaks and other EDM, he proved he is worthy of his reputation. Unfortunately he has terminated this series, so we will have to look for him in his productions.

Nope, they can all be from the same DJ if you want. No restrictions on that, whatsoever.

I liked The Singularity a lot. I actually probably had dismissed it as one of your liquid DNB mixes when I was going through the mixes I'd heard and forgot it was the massive one. Then I'd have to say Distant Places and The Singularity were the two tops.

I've got a few more I still need to listen to so I might update it later. For now, to start of there were a lot of good techno mixes. But here's a few that particularly struck my fancy:

zeK - Feb 2012
Very solid mix both technically and music wise, with dark en brooding industrial flavoured techno.

SERIBEAT - TEK-to-TRIBE
Because tribal tech is best tech.

Then, It's obvious system J has this whole mixing thing down, but the one I'll pick is probably unexpected considering it's direction. But I thought it was actually one of the finest and most enjoyable of the bunch. Not sure why but it just felt a bit less rigid and a bit more adventurous then his usual, and the music was good too. Presenting:

Jack Moss - Life At Low Volume

Now, It's been mentioned before. And yes, it is entirely too long. But as it turns out trance and techno "the way he likes it" is exactly the way I like it. And I can but respect the amount of effort gone in to making such a monstrous set and doing well at it too. Even though I rarely manage to listen to the whole thing in one setting, it still gets a mention here, purely because of the musical quality:

Thanks. I think 2012 has probably been my best year, I'm really happy with all the mixes I put out and managed to turn random inspiration into reality more often than in the past.

That was "My Radio" (see sig) from 2011.

Cheers for the mentions so far, guys. I think I hit a sort of ceiling for satisfaction regarding dancefloor related mixes in 2012, and I don't think I will make another one until I get a proper set of decks, and thus a realistic opportunity to play for a crowd.

There might be some movement in terms of more experimental and abstract mixes, though. I got a dictaphone from my parents for christmas, which could hopefully function as an outlet for stuff in my head that I could combine with electronic music in a mix, and thus express myself on a different level where the traditional mixing <-> crowd energy dynamic isn't all that important.
