Dave King - Arcadia [Nu Skool & Psychadelic Breaks, Tech-Funk & Techno]

The stages Arcadia create are, quite simply, ridiculous and my favourite places to have a damn good rave. This year I've had the good fortune to be able to dance into the wee hours around The Spider and The Afterburner which both follow a similar formula, recycled military scrap, lasers, big fuck off sound system and flamethrowers. There really is nothing quite like a big drop being accompanied by the stage you're dancing on exploding around you.

After getting home from Bestival this week I felt inspired to create this mix in homage. In keeping with the futuristic, other worldly feel of the stages its mostly dirty, dark, mechanoid, optimus prime battles the terminator type breaks with a few bits of tech-funk and techno thrown in for light relief. Its a "festival set", so its about as subtle as a slap in the face with a fish, but I'm really pleased with it and I hope you enjoy it too. Not too sure about listening context, if you dont have a giant fire breathing spider I'd suggest something energetic, its not for quiet reflection.

Excellent mix, probably your best breaks mix to date. I won't go as far as Mattinsanity and say that this is the best mix to ever be posted in this forum. I think that praise is a tad too high for this mix, albeit one of your best personal efforts. The track selection was absolutely mega, and your transitions were killer (with a few exceptions, there were definitely some shaky ones). I liked how you started off heavy, then dropped the energy a little, then brought it back with a vengeance in the second half. There were some really awesome tracks, not too many boring areas, and the closer has been one of my favorite breaks tracks for quite some time. Can't really find any tracks that stuck out to me as being a total killer except maybe Hedflux & LuQas - Reptoid [Broken Robot].

Really nice work, though, I can see myself playing this several times.

Cheers man, glad you liked it. I know what you mean about the shakey mixes, there are a few points the beatmatching slips a bit, but I didnt think it detracted too much. I often feel that a rough first take often has more energy and a better vibe than a perfected second take with music like this so I decided to leave the warts in.

It can be difficult with a mix like this when you start off with all guns blazing to drop things back a bit without losing too much momentum. I tried to keep the energy bubbling while still having moments of relative calm so you dont get tired and you picked up on that so I guess mission accomplished haha!

Matt - I'm flattered you would say that, Im going to agree with zip and say its not quite that good, but thank you for the kind words

This is such a banging mix mate. You are a very diverse DJ! This mix isnt like the musical journey that your 'hobgoglin' mix is, but it Is perfect for hammering out in the car :-)
