My First Completed Song - Review Please

I've been fooling around with music production for over a year, and I was making really weird music that most of which wasn't enjoyable to listen to.
This is my first real song I've made and I have lyrics written for it and a singer ready to sing.

I ask for a review of the song, be brutally honest please!

tune

yeah really like... nice melody..

so down to business. The bass at times is not in the right keys for the actual tune.

Also this is a odd style of music, wouldnt really fit into trance id guess, but similar themes suppose.

Also it is a lot of random (but good) melodies stuck together, maybe this can be expanded into a few ideas

Okay, well - it's your first complete track and it really shows.

The melodies are nice, but the whole thing sounds like it came from a nineties video game. Everything sounds very, very dated - the drums in particular. There's a very distinct software feel about the whole track.

Also, is this the complete track or a sample? 2 minutes is pretty short for a complete track.

All in all, I've heard far worse first tracks but you've still got some way to go.

yeah, some very nice melodies there. but it does kinda just sound like a midi file to be honest! what program/synths did you use? you need to look around for some good samples for the drums, or even make some yourself using a drum machine (even a soft synth one if you can't afford a real one).

if i were you, i'd take some of the melodies out of that track (just as midi files) and start the track again, with new samples & synths.

but for your first song it's very good i recently finished my first trance song, but i had been making dnb/breakbeat before that.

Thank you for all the feedback so far.

I used Reason 4 entirely. All synths are my own subtractor patches with effects.
All drum samples were from the Guyver Sample Pack, which was recommended on this forum by a few people.

I could imagine it working with a higher bpm.

Sounds dated.

2 minutes is short for a full length track.

Nice melody during the break, it was just starting to get interesting and then, boom! the end?

I don't think the tempo is quite right for a four to the floor beat, it might sound better with a less steady/breakbeat drum loop. Also the kick and bass need beefing up to give the track more oomph.

Still, it's a good attempt if you've only been producing for just over a year. Keep practising and try out those melodies with the more powerful synths in reason.
