[Vocal Trance] "Need 2B Set Free" feat. Lauren Rochelle

I just started working with a fantastic new singer named Lauren Rochelle and she added lyrics and vocals to a song idea I started years ago when I was heavily into Ian van Dahl, Fragma, Lasgo, Cascada, etc., but then it sat there on my hard drive until Lauren came along. We’re hoping to put the final touches on it this weekend, so we’re open to suggestions. It’s the first song in the player and will start automatically. Also, the song is 192kbps and streams from my own server (i.e., not the crappy myspace player).

Check out Lauren's myspace at: http://www.myspace.com/LaurenRochelleKramer

FYI - the song idea was started in Project5, finished in Sonar 7, and uses the following synths:

- Access Virus Polar TI
- Dave Smith Mono Evolver Keyboard
- Spectrasonics Atmosphere
- Cakewalk Rapture
- ReFX Nexus
- NI Battery 3 w/Vengeance Club vol2 and House vol2 samples
- Spectrasonics Stylus RMX

Lauren’s vocals were recorded in Sonar 7 using a Rode NTK mic into a JoeMeek OneQ channel strip and into a MOTU 828mkII. I also used a sE Reflexion filter.

it's in keeping with the times, very much like tiesto but i think the lead you made is a bit to mainsream ish. i also like the second track being played a lot more it's deeper and i can tell you know how to make a good track. just feal the lead in firs track needs a bit more of a edge.

Thanks for listening and commenting airwalker1! I hear what you're saying about the lead, but I was actually very much after a mainstream sound on this song ala the other projects I mentioned, hence the short length (4:18), pop-hooks/melodies, harmonies, etc. There is a deeper club remix in the works that I'm working on with Avery Parker, so hopefully you'll like that one better!

cool beans if you were albe to get what you wanted then thats half the battal one.The reason why i picked on the lead was she had certen tones in here vioce that sounds as if a more stronger melody would bring more depth to the song.may i surgest some light pionos floting around here voice. coss the area you are aiming for love real music sound right now. anyway im glad you are happy with it that is all that matters in the end.

I like it man.
If I heard this at a friends, a rave, or even on the radio.. I wouldn't give it a second thought that it's from a local DJ.

You're ahead in the producers game.

Props.

Yeah, I know, but I was actually after a very commercial sound on this track. I just like catchy tunes and I have a good time making music. I'm not trying to make a living doing this (been there, done that) or fool myself into thinking that I'm setting any trends, ya know what I mean?!

I really do like it!

4 remarks:

1: when the song starts you give it all away, i find the gap between the energy in the intro and the 1st verse a bit too big

2. In several parts of the song the has a VERY NICE voice which fits perfectly, but in others she sounds a bit nervous, you might want to do some more takes on those. This song needs to be carried driven by the singer, hence she needs to be a at least as powerfull as your arrangement / patch choices.

3: Try to listen to some more radio edits from the likes of Cascada etc. and try to stick to a 3min20 ish single edit with the right flow of intro/chorus verse chorus break chorus verse chorus outro... or something like that. now the song still has a 5min to 7min flow working up to more. which is very nice, but leaves the "single story" a bit cut in half sort of speak....

4. When listening to the 2n track in your list i find the pace and patch choice of that track a better match to her voice then your 1st one. (becasue of the pace and energy)
you could try to adjust some chords and experiment how the verses match on that track?

5. Try to create a bit more adlibs with the voices, some electrohouse type stutter effects, some reverse verbs leading in etc... this gives the singer a bit more atmospere, i find her a bit "dry" now....
Technically no comments whatsoever and a very convincing project overall!
