Can you do oldskool AND commercial in the same track?

A WIP version of a remix i've been asked to do for some young progressive whippersnapper.

It's still rough round the edges at this point, especially the intro and the non existant mini break.

If the 'commercial' influence isn't obvious, I'm cool with that

I don't know man. Not your usual quality. The intro is rough and the mini-break is practically non-existent.

Actually, the only current problem I have with it is the snare is a little over-stated, but I'm not complaining loudly about it. I'm afraid I'm a little hazy on how to make it more commercial. Are you going for ASOT or a more dirty electro sound?

Hmmm.

I'm actually deliberately trying to be cheesy, but no so bad that it's the wrong side of cheesy.

Some tweaks need to be made I think

Not feeling this one brother. Sounds like you're on the right path to hip and happening, but it could benefit from a series of tweaks, like you've already said. I'll follow as you update it.

I may just bin this one tbh.

I decided to try and make something 'to order' as the guy asked me a couple of times but tbh I'm not feeling it either.

Just goes to show, it has to come from inspiration, not direction.

The main chord / melo is very catchy. Just needs some love on some sounds such as the clap and one lead that comes in which is a bit like a a bike wheel needing a little oil, lol!

Could be a commercial winner this...

I find the main lead too harsh and digital sounding.

Otherwise, just like Swiss cheese

Hehe

Actually I think that top layer of the stabs are causing the issues I don't like.

And if you mean the main lead at the end then hurumph!
