There's a wierd machine gun noise at start of drop 2, need to look into that.

Used NERVE drum machine for the first time. Really pleased with this machine.

Ah man. Really muddy mixing but what an awesome underlying song. You are very good at having non-repetitive songs. This track is like an underground version of the commercial House music big right now. Sort of like Pryda too.

I think it could be fantastic when its done.

Hmm, I think the track does have way too much going on in the lower mids, like 200-300hz area, sounds a bit middy I agree, but my biggest problem is I detest that weird... hat... thing where the snare would generally be haha.

I think you'd be able to achieve a much more solid rhythm once it actually breaks into the main drop section if you pulled back the decay a little bit on all the synthesizers.

One of my favourite transitions is to go from something rather wet to a really dry, fast-paced percussive section and this track lends itself well to that.

You could pull it off

But it's your artistic vision, obviously.

Well what Sean said---plus it doesn't sound very stereo overall, very monophonic sounding. Also, it doesn't sound like there are much hi's, or that much lows for that matter. Finally, and I don't know how one achieves this affect, it sounds like I am listening to something in the back of the room.

Again, I like the song. Very impressive composition.


I also like the Guetta song. Good stuff. The video you posted is blocked territorially in the States but I found it elsewhere.

Ha, would you belive I actually used various steareo wideners and constantly automated them thru the track (narrow to wide)!

Hi's - I'll do some A/B ing - I'm not a good judge here as I dislike over hyped hi's myslef, especially with ear phones and I find a lot of pro tracks too fried eggish, but none the less I am glad you pointed this out.

Low's - funnily enough they are pounding thru on my little PC speakers, but again I'll A/B properly. I agreed with Sean about the higher lows, they sound too prominent.

OK, the back of the room thing was deliberate and I haven't decided if I like it or not yet. People forever say do your own thing, be original, but I guess sometimes trying something new can stray into shitness.

The mix I think is much clearer without my homemade mastering, and I do intend for Raphie to master this one once I've got the mix and also some transitions better.

SEAN - interesting you say about making the synths drier in drop 2, as I had thought this too, but I then forgot to do it. I'm going to try it. It's a fine balance as you know because sometimes you drier in the drop and people feedback that it lost energy and impact.

That wierd snare thing I'm keeping because I like the way it seems like a rainforest bird talking and also because sometimes you just want to do it your own unique way - as people are forever urging us to do on here.

I'm not listening to this now for a few days, some I can come back fresh and have that realisation moment which instantly tells you what needs a fix.

The mix has been discussed enough previously so I'll skip that bit ...

This is a fantastic tune, you've managed to pull an authentic house line seemingly straight from '95 and threw it into a techno tune - it's a really successful fusion. A bit of light and dark (the drop at 2:38 illustrates this beautifully)

Got a good epic feel too -

how did you do your kiks and low percussion? I need to start exploring those in my output!!

Don't take what I said too seriously if you hear differently. I am not the best at finding mixing issues. I don't know if you are saying the stereo and mono switched back and forth because I did kind of hear stereo sometimes and mono others.

As for the bass, I meant the sub bass area. But I know it is hard to find sub bass sometimes even when it is there.

But I think there is something wrong with my headphones. They are senheiser but they seem to be losing there bass. I don't know if they got blasted out sometime recently or what.

I can't wait to hear the finished track though.

Ok drums is my fave thing in edm, I could spend forever making drum loops.
Until now I did all drum sounds one at a time, each sound with it's own lane in the DAW.
Typically I'd use a kick from Wave Alchemy samples packs, but usually modify it. I'd load this into something called kicklab

Understand that it can take me months to get the right kik into a track, it's probably the most important job imo.


But for this track I took the advice of Cryophonik and bought myself a proper software drum machine (see below) so I could get several drum sounds going and make a pattern and actually hear them all at once, and fuk I spent hours and hours on it for this track. I pay close attention to pitch of each sound and also pitch envelope on the low percs such as kick and those quiet low repetetive kick sounds.

It's this interplay of pitched envelopes on perc sounds than can bring magic but it's not a rush job and I am perfectly able to get it all wrong.
