[Easy Listening] Winter Ballad... a song to my parents

Greetings,

With college, I haven't had the time of day to write the music I want to write. However, I haven't got the money to buy the things I want for my loved ones. I dust off my software/hardware and thought I'd spend a free day writing this song.

Production wise, I'm not too happy with it, and there's only a day left!!!! However, I feel that there's alot of good things to capitalize on with this song. I used alot of samples that I gathered... I had no money to invest in a good orchestral sound kit. However, I thought would share the melody with you to see if you liked it.

Believe it or not... I really gave myself only one evening to compose, record, write, and mix the piece. THe main piano melody, however, was a melody that came to my mind months ago. I played the melody on a real piano here and there before I did this...

I like this. I've been learning piano recently so I can appreciate the intro which is very well composed. These chiming sounds may be a little too prominent and it feels like the violin should be coming in more heavily.

nice, soothing bass line and percussions are simple but I like the samples. make them a bit heavier, maybe just increase the volume.

can't say much else since I'm not a composer and the composition seems to be the main staple of your track. I think you've achieved what you were going for. I enjoyed it, I'm sure your parents will as well

Sounds really nice! The melody is soft and emotional, like the piano. Good job!

Merry Christmas!

Thanks all (Yes... it's me -- with a name change).

I fixed clipping on the second pass of the chorus. I accidentally automated the compressor wrong. However, that change isn't in the putfile mp3 -- yet!

Hey dude, the ideas are good, but the structure is kinda caothic, the glissandos are way to loud, so the reverses, the deep percussion just pops put very rough and dry. I would focus first, in the build up, all sections appears very impromptu, would play more with the reverb, try also to auto the glissandos, with the panning, that boost alot this kind of songs.
The piano has not dinamics at all, and sounds pretty sequenced, as the overall tune. I feel also like u are trying to put too many things in the tune, alot of stuff going on there, sounds, sections, but without good intros, etc. Try to humanize more the tune, sounds very sequenced .
Drums sound like one of those cheap New Age remix compilations.
In overall, the overall idea is not bad, very cheesy instrumental stuff, sounds like one of those songs for unicef events to get money to kids in africa or sort of. The tune has potential, but it needs really ALOT of work mate .
I hope you dont take this review personal, I am only trying to give u constructive feedback .

That's the kind of stuff I need to hear... thanx! I know you produce alot of slower material that's alot more spacey or symphonic at times, so I take your comments especially serious.

Because I'm not a trained pianist... I rely on recording melodies and repairing them rythmically.

I have a TERRIBLE time with reverb. Every time I try to mix seriously with it, it comes out very muddy. It depresses me.

You say that the song has alot of ideas... the arrangement is indeed chaotic. I suppose that was my vain attempt at giving a classical edge to the song that was suppost to sound non-repetitive.
