hey mate reviewing as i listen,

i dunno the original.. this track is very minimal.. nice work on the percs. maybe a a harder kick would fit better. 2:00 cool bassline, love the fading fx there. nice background lead. i think it would fit well if there were some congo's throughout the tune.. i like the pads at around 3:00 gives a nice feel to the tune. 4:00 again the pads, their very warm/atmospheric.. you need to work a bit on the equalizing, maybe add the bass up by 6db to bring out the bass a bit more.. overall a very nice tune but very minimal. i think some more percussions like a congo or some claps in the middle of the tune would fit well. good job i enjoyed it!

Hey m8 - thanks for teh thoughts, I'll definitely be upping the bass a touch and I think I might use a different kick entirely, as the one I've got is a bit weak for sure.

I got a few PM's about the volume (as Nate had mentioned ), so I brought the master into Audacity and amplified it - it's the same version of the tune, just louder!

I love how well you're progressing with producing so quickly man. This is great, I really really like the atmosphere in this. The pad in the background is so chill and relaxing.

alright off we go...

cool percs, a little sharp at first but they end up working well. kick is wayyyyyyyy too muddy. get rid of it... you need something thats much phatter from 65-80hz not from 100hz+.

bells-arp at 1:30 seems out of rhythm, check the time sig on that.

bassline is cool, good movement this would work well with a bigger kick on those lower frequencies because this is in the same mid range as the current kick.

fx are okay, the tail end of the percs has great fx (the whooshing snares or whatever thats delayed)

pads, not my style lost me, i don't really see how they relate unless you planned on moving really slow from chorus to verse, etc. maybe put some stabby pads in there for some added rhythm otherwise you're relying on your 8 bar perc line for it all and that gets tiresome

cool man, needs a lot more but could be good!

The highs on this are just totally out of wack. It's nice, and I know what you are going for, but I think you'd be better off toying with them a bit more, getting everything to sit nicely up there. Eqing + better mixdown should help this out...

The low end definitely needs to be beefed up, get some thickness in the lower freqs and kick... keep working with them, possibly add some more freqs to that pad, add a lower later, not sure...

It also feels very plasticy... I don't know if you tried "mastering" this, but it just feels slighly weird.


Solid ideas though, can't wait to hear a more finished version.

Thank you guys so much for the comments - I've been working hard on this one, and will definitely be taking everything you guys have to say very seriously.

As far as the EQ'ing, I've realized it's utterly horrid - and it's my fault because I set up my studio monitors in an absolute shit fashion that makes everything sound totally out of wack - I'm definitely re-eq'ing everything before doing a final master/mixdown.

I've already added more kick - and definitely think it sounds much better - I've also altered the bells in the intro so that they don't kick in so awkwardly, but rather (IMO) build much more nicely.

This is only the second production I've ever worked on, so all I'm really hoping to do is learn, so in that vein, thanks for all the feedback you guys - really helping me find my way
