New techy vocal track "Quicklime" - I'd love some input!

Hey all.

Overcame a 2 week bout of writers block, and spent a feverish couple days working on a new idea. It's a club track, or what I thought could work in club format.

It's got some vocals, some moogage, and some favorite sounds of mine. I'd love to hear what you think.

the track is called "Quicklime" and it's on the second page of tracks. Wish I could shift the order around to make it easier on ya =\

Cheers and thanks for your time!

Once the song gets going, I can barely hear the kick drum.

I thought the beginning went on a bit long and the high end may have been a little too bright (just toward the beginning), but once the song started building, it became utterly brilliant, until the singing, when it kind of seems to fall apart a little (toward the second or third verse) and become busy, muddied and chaotic with quite a bit of harmonic dissonance.

There is a lead that's playing near the vocal parts that just kind of seems like it was put there as a place-holder until something better came along.

The track has excellent potential. Kudos for not sounding like anyone else. It seems like there are a lot of layers but when it gets busy, the track just loses a lot of its definition.

It's still a rough mix, and I agree with you that some of the muddiness needs to be worked out. The kick seems quite defined in my mix, which may just come down to listening field - I'll have to check it on some other monitors. It's at that stage where the ruthless "what really needs to stay" comes in. Your opinions definitely resonate with some thoughts I've been having, so I think I'll take some action. Thanks for the input! Look forward to hearing what you think when I go for another pass on it.

Definitely looking forward to hearing the finished product.

Boy, do I know that feeling right before going to town on a track with major surgery.

Alright Eddie - I took a tonne of stuff out, and worked out some of the EQ issues. I realized as I was going through that some of my rough ideas where actually still in the mix, eating up precious midrange frequency

I left the intro as is - I couldn't bring it down without feeling like it just wasn't right, so I'll leave that to someone mixing in and out, but removed 30 seconds of vocal towards the second vox section to keep the pace.

Let me know what you think - it seems your monitors may be a bit more telling than mine, so I'd like to see if the issues in the vocal sections seem any clearer.

Thanks again for your time and valuable criticism.

Oooh! Nicely done!

I think both vocals and kick drum could come up a bit. That's my only 'complaint', at this point. Aside from those two, which may be entirely stylistic preferences, this song is a very well oiled machine.

I gotta say, I love this track!

Right on - thanks a tonne for the compliment! I'm glad the work made a difference. Sometimes I feel like the KRK RP6's Im using are a bit too emphasizing on certain parts of the EQ band...

Some more small tweaks are probably in order, agreed!

Thanks again for the good feedback man; was really helpful in the development of the track.
