This is awesome, no need to change it much.
Tighten up the drums at the 2:00 minute mark so they are more of a "snap" sound than a "clang" and you will have a winner in my eyes!
Also, the trancey melody sounds around the 4:00 minute mark have a tad too much reverb on them. I'd pull this back a bit if it was my track.
The build ups are nice, the bass line is excellent and the production value overall is very pleasing.
Finished version please!

Thanks, I'll make sure to check the reverb on that later.

the intro is neat, but the entrance of the kick can have a lot more power to it... also that bass i feel is a little bit old... the vocal samples could use more effects on... the small lead is starting a bit boring but then it turns to a cool riff, i really liked it (the second riff not the first one), but then comes some sort of a break and the synths sound really uninspired to me tho the beats and stuff around sounds good, again the entrance can be a lot stronger with more investments there... from there i feel like it just goes until the third lead comes in which is much more complex and interesting but i still would have made lots of changes to it to sound more computarized and with a really short tail...
so in conclusion you percussions are great and beat sequencing is really good, it just the sound design and transitions that bothered me, keep at it, all the best! |
Thanks for the in depth critique. I've already tried to power up that intro kick before you even commented on this track lol. I will go back and check again though.
What did you mean by "that bass is a little bit old?" Like old as in 2004/05 sounding (as opposed to 2008)??
Not really sure what to do with the voice samples, but I agree, they could use some tweaking, thanks.
Lastly, the transitions. Your referring to the strength of the opening kick?
Thanks everyone for all the comments.

transitions between parts, like when adding a hihat or something, you can make it very interesting if you want.
regarding the bass line it just has been done so many times in psy trance and i feel you can use a more original bass than that, but if that is what you like so be it...
bout the vox, try adding some pitch shifting mixed 50 precent wet to it, it usually gives a nice psychedelic feel to it.

I think the bass line is the best bit.
I listen to full-on almost exclusively, yet I found this bass line quite unique and memorable.

Yes, the bass-line does sound over done, I hear this kind of bass-line nearly all full-on trance tracks. Also, the guitars in U2 songs are old and over tone, and so are those rhythmic styles of singing I hear in hip-hop songs. My point, that bassline is what makes this genre of music. You're not going to tell a rock band to stop using guitar power chords cause the are overdone. We do this sound cause it rocks....ANYWAY
Good track, you need to finish it, and it be really freaking cool if at some point, for a transition, you take the entire mix of the song and put it through a filter, like a high pass, then right at the next bar slam everything back in. Do that!

Love it. It has a retro psy sound to it that I really enjoy.
Good work! Ready for the labels in my opinion....
