The world of hip-hop is made up of foundations represented by stylistically regional genres - East Coast, West Coast, the Mid-West, and the Dirty South. Every so often however, a hip-hop act emerges to interrupt the shine of conventional hip-hop. In 2002 with their acclaimed debut, Lord Willin', Malice and Pusha T a.k.a. Clipse introduced the Virginia streets to the hip-hop world.
The creation of Clipse was the culmination of events that began in the early nineties when the brothers caught the attention of a then unknown producer named Pharrell Williams. Impressed by what he heard, Williams promised to produce a demo tape for the duo. As Malice and Pusha T began to develop their craft and recognize their potential they began to formally be known as Clipse.
Pharrell and his producing partner Chad Hugo, known as the Neptunes, initially helped Clipse land a record deal, in a partnership that has seen Clipse work with closely with the producers on all three of their major label releases.
Their latest record, 2009s Till The Casket Drops, features guests Kayne West, Keri Hilson and Pharrell on vocals, with production duties being handled by the Neptunes as well as producers Scott Storch, Rick Rubin, Kanye West, The Hitmen, and Swizz.
Clipse have also made a dent in the pop music world providing rhymes for Justin Timberlake on his first solo single, "Like I Love You," a Neptunes-produced crossover radio hit, and again in 2006, rapping on a remix of the Timbaland-produced single "SexyBack.
