Recording false multichannel with A3D?

I dunno where to post this..... but I think you all might be able to direct me to some forums that might be able to help me.....got a few theoretical questions.

Hello..... let's say I have a stereo or mono stream of music, and I'm in a home recording studio.

And, I want to use A3D to record this stereo stream so that it sounds like it is making a 360 degree circle clockwise around the listener.

In essence, using A3D to geometrically move the source music all around you, and having the sound card output the results in two-speaker form, and then recording hte output. Which, would theoretically, if played back without anything done to it, in headphones or stereo, would give you a surround effect.

What hardware and software would I need to do this? Is there a tweak to do this that you can do with a consumer level sound card, like Turtle Beach Santa Cruz?

If not, what would I have to buy to do this?

Also, is this LEGAL to do?

I'm not sure what u mean but if you want to create a circular motion in your stereo image you could try something like this:
have the signal on left open and on right silence (hardpanned)
on left fade out; simultaneously on right fade in
have the signal on right open and on left silence

and back again to get to starting position....

yea, that's left to right. There are many ways to do that, to various effects...

It's fairly easy to get that.

I want to get that AND front to back, at the same time!

Wouldn't you need a quadrophonic system for that?

No, with the right algorithms (there are a BUNCH that do it!!), you can get two phantom rear speakers with only two speakers.

Which is what I'm talking about.
