Needles!

Ok a buddy of mine said the problem I have with the beats skipping on the first beats were because of my weights. He said because I had ortofon S needles there built for the weight to go the whole way down and have minimal record damage. What are your thoughts, he's a preety damn good DJ so im at the point of believing it 100 percent but i want other info

I have those needles, and have the tonearm weight set at 2.5g, and I've never had any problem playing anything before. I'd say your friend is wrong, the more weight, the more damage. That's how it is with any needle. Some damage less than others, but still.

N NO! Bullshit! You'll ruin your records if you do that!
Here's the thing with weight and stuff:

If you set the weight quite low, sound quality is very low but record wear is very low as well. If you set the weight higer, sound quality gets higher but record wear also goes up.

Ofcourse there are limits, if you go ALL the way down (let's say about 5/6g), your styli won't hold, causing to bury itself deeper into the vinyl. Not only will your sound be very messed up, but you can also say goodbye to your records ánd your styli if you do that a couple of times.

For Ortofons, I'd go for 3,5g. Don't forget to set your anti-skating to 3,5g as well.

the ortofon carts are built to take up to 5g stylus pressure. although when i used to have them i never needed it over 3.5-4g. never go over 5g otherwise you will fuck up the stylus

Leave your anti skate at 0.

Yes, so many people still don't know that anti-skate is a no-no with DJ setups.
